Oh boy…
Any mud that PZ hasn’t stirred up is going to be stirred up now. According to the latest Non-Prophets podcast, Matt Dillahunty is going to launch his own version of the Blasphemy Challenge by challenging viewers of The Atheist Experience to sneak their own consecrated communion wafers out of church and videotape themselves doing…well…I don’t know, actually. Holding it up, I guess. (He specifically emphasized that no one should disrupt a service while scoring the cracker.)
Enough viewers nationwide (maybe even worldwide?) watch or listen to The Atheist Experience that I think this will take off; the Blasphemy Challenge certainly did well, so there are plenty of people out there who are willing to do this kind of thing. I hope it does take off. No doubt many people will use this opportunity to do all sorts of nasty things to their newly acquired cracker, but Dillahunty isn’t explicitly advocating any of this. Just get the consecrated wafer; basically the same as the student who started it all, except with a videocamera and knowledge of the consequences. I hope this catches Bill Donohue’s attention, too (if PZ mentions it on Pharyngula then it certainly will). We can argue and argue about whether it’s okay to publically desecrate a communion wafer in nasty ways, but just removing the wafer from the church? Bring it on.
[...] It’d be an even worse idea for others to join him and videotape themselves destroying the communion wafers. [...]
