Sounds like someone’s been playing some interactive fiction games.
Makes perfect sense to me. We have to use a little plastic doohickey for attaching balloons to plastic sticks in order to keep our phone charged.
I mended a large umbrella (that would have otherwise been thrown out) by a simple addlition of a tiny rectangle of plastic that had a hole in it and a conveniently placed notch. If anything, it worked better than before
My life is full of such bricolage.
